Harlan has lost a great man, and a great unbeatable elected official.

In sorrow, we mourn those lost. In gratitude, we embrace those around us. In sympathy, we reach out to those who grieve. RIP.

I hate to be the one to say it, but his death will cause a lot of drama.

Very sad. Several years ago he fixed my one and only ticket.

One of the girls in his office should be appointed to that position.

So "fixing" tickets is ok? We can just violate the law and as long as we have a "fixer", we're free to go on our way, not held by the standards of the law? I believe that kind of activity is called corruption. The same corruption that permeates a society to the extent it no longer recognizes right from wrong.

If that's corruption what term do we call the other stuff that goes on?

I would call it more of the same. As long as people condone corruption at any level of government, it will be acceptable at all levels of government. Everyone makes mistakes. We have legal methods that deal with those mistakes. It's when we subvert those methods, society loses. If we don't like a particular law the majority feel is unfair, we have the means to change it. Becoming indebted to individuals subverting those laws, holds us hostage to those individuals as they gain more support as they hand out "favors", for the express purpose of maintaining seats of power. We transfer the power of the people to the individual, who may or may not act in the best interest of our community as a whole. This is the very reason we have entrenched corruption in all levels of our government today. When the big power guns are unleashed and target our individual rights, dishonor our country's veterans, weaken our educational system and take our jobs overseas we cry foul. Well...guess what? Accepting corruption as a way of life begins at home. Either you condone or condemn corruption. There is NO gray area.

Rumors galore as to who will be appointed.
