That is beautiful JR. I just recently learned the whole facilities at the camp can be rented for a weekend or overnight. I don't think any ATVs or motor homes are allowed tho. Not for sure on that.

More forests are here in the county like this and it would be nice to see them protected as well for recreation.

Don't you know that Acid Rain is a myth? The same as global warming is a myth. Strip Mining is good for the mountains because when the coal companies CLEAN it up it will be better than what God put into place, Oh I forgot there isn't a God either all of this wonderous stuff came about by chance.

We have so much natural beauty in Harlan Co. that people never get to see. I wish videos like this could get circulated more.

Great words that describe it exactly RAP. I got the meaning and it was well said. You need to publish that somewhere and I don't think anyone could have said it better.

Oh NO! Not the Beatles!!

McCartney, in Interview, Compares Global Warming Skeptics to Holocaust Deniers

Sir Paul McCartney just can't let it be.

The former Beatle predicted in an interview that the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico might expedite a move to cleaner, renewable energy sources in the world.

Sir Paul could have stopped while he was ahead, but McCartney went on to compare people who don't believe in global warming to "those who don't believe there was a Holocaust."

"Sadly we need disasters like this to show people," McCartney said in an exclusive interview with The Sun. "Some people don't believe in climate warning -- like those who don't believe there was a Holocaust."

McCartney continued, "But the facts indicate that there's something going on and we've got to be aware of it if we want our kids to inherit a decent world, not a complete nightmare of a planet -- clean, renewable energy is for starters."

McCartney also defended President Obama's handling of the two-month-old crisis.

"I don't accept the criticism of Barack over the oil spill," said McCartney, who met the president for the first time earlier this month.

"I think he's been great. It's tough if we Brits whinge that he's whingeing at us. Tough, then don't spill oil."

A representative for McCartney in London said the singer would have no further comment.

Chris Horner, a senior fellow at Competitive Enterprise Institute and author of two books on environmental policy, blasted McCartney's comments.

"Was Posh Spice unavailable? I've seen quite a few reasons to look elsewhere than actors and crooners for deep thoughts on weighty policy matters," Horner wrote in an e-mail to FoxNews.com. "And this is certainly one of them."

Horner's message continued: "They've got computer model projections, Leonardo [DiCaprio] and the Cute Beatle. In the other corner are observations proving the models wrong, ClimateGate, NASA-Gate and the host of IPCC-Gates.

"I'm comfortable with the balance of authorities here."

The Beatles were all idiots anyway (except Ringo). I mean, they were musical masters..don't get me wrong on that, but liberal Brits all the same. Lennon was an Athiest, Harrison was an Eastern Religious nut and McCartney...well, he was the guy who sold the Beatles catalogue to Michael Jackson.

Global warming...aka Climate Change is a religion for a lot of the sophisticated 'elites' like McCartney and James Cameron. It doesn't require them to do anything but talk a good game and that makes them feel better about themselves. I like Dave Matthews' view on climate change...it sums the limo-left up perfectly, "People should ride bicycles, except me, I have to travel because I'm important."
What's so 'ProgressivE' about SocialisM?

These photos are so beautiful. They remind me of some of the scenery in Colorado. I would love to go there. How do you get there?

I have to say that until you have visited a sites like this, you will never know the true beauty.. Anyone who against MTR or "strip mining" should stop listening to the media hype or internet and visit it for themselves.

This all that remains of the strip mine in Dathoit, via Google Earth
Image

All you can see is about 3 acres of land that is barren, don't worry their all lots of saplings growing. The site has only been closed for 10 years or so.

This is a few houses a top of a mountains, see there is more acreage compared..

To compare:

I full view of all of it..

You can clearly see the difference, if not your blind.

Miners have the right to support their family's. They're are not doing all the damage people lead you to believe. Stop listening and get off your duff and see for yourselves. Just like the purposed energy plant in Bell Co, wake up and educate yourself. You will find that it will be cleaner that burning natural gas.
