Big Cats

Postby Doc Holliday » Fri Apr 15, 2011 3:59 pm

I was in Harlan not too long ago and camped out on Pine Mountain near Laden Trail. Are there big cats in the area? Panthers maybe? Although i did not see one, I could have sworn I heard one a few times throughout the night. It was either that or I may have drank too much beer.

I thought this was another hooker topic!

That always drives me a little crazy. Now they are reporting that panthers may be migrating into the area, but my personal opinion is that a gap of time never existed when they were not present in Appalachia. Maybe the numbers are growing and more evidence is following.

Monster Quest aired a very interesting investigation on the topic. Multiple witnesses who have encountered panthers speak on this video, and all the experts say that panthers are figment of our imagination.

About the 12:35 mark on the second video shows the footage of the panther in West Virginia. The entire episode is on Youtube.

There is no way they aren't here. To many places for them to live and plenty to eat. Listen to your elders applies to this subject too.

Of course here's a thought, if they start running out of rabbits and such to eat I know a way to thin out the prison population. A big fenced in area give em food and a tent set em loose if they survive a month, ok. It's a win-win! Just a thought....

They are here and have always been. To much natural area for them to live in.

Nope. I don't believe they are around. I have coon hunted around harlan all my life and know lots of coon hunters. If they were around, one would have been treed and shot out by now. I have seen and heard of lots of bobcats treed but no mtn lions. By the way, black panthers are not even indigenous to this area. When folks talk about seeing big black cats around here, they need to go to the doctor and get their prozac increased.
