Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
We're strong supporters of free speech, however, the HarlanForum.com / The Playhouse is a privately owned website, and all users must adhere to our terms of service. By posting on our website you are entering into a contract that says you must abide by our rules and regulations. Failure to follow our terms is breach of contract and could result in losing access to your Playhouse account and viewing privileges.
Don't agree? That's fine. Go find a different board or put up some time and money to start your own.
User Registration Rules
Don't register with a fake or invalid email address. You'll need a valid email address in order to activate your account. If you provide a false email address, you aren't going to be able to register.
A few users have experienced problems registering where they didn't receive the account activation email. We suspect this has nothing to do with the forum, but their email account's spam/bulk folder settings. There is a re-send activation email option from the login page. Try that if all else fails. If you still have problems registering, email me at email@example.com and I will assist you.
Do not register with obscene, offensive, troll-esque or otherwise stupid screen names.
You may freely change your screen name at any time from your user control panel. This doesn't interfere with your post count, private messages, avatar and sig banner, or personal settings.
Please do not create multiple accounts without first letting the Administration know. Some of you have multiple identities registered from the same computer, which is fine if you share your PC with other family members, but please try and let us know beforehand.
If you don't let us know and we find out you have multiple accounts, you will be banned.
Spam, Post Count
We've noticed some new users are deliberately spamming in an attempt to falsify their post count to gain access to Members Only.
If we catch you doing this you may end up losing many forum privleges, such as access to Members Only, the ability to use avatars, sig banners, PM inbox space may also be reduced, and you could be limited to only a few posts per day.
Your post count will be reset to 0, too.
Spammy or junk posts are typically sent to The Trash Bin, or deleted altogether depending on how idiotic they are.
It all depends on the forum and the manner in which it's used. Again, we are strong supporters of free speech and we have no set rule against using profanity, but it would be advisable not to use too much bad language in the Harlan Kentucky subforums or more 'family-friendly' areas.
Although in a forum like Ground-N-Pound or The Adult Forum (which isn't moderated), it's more acceptable.
Images, Upload Attachments, and Links
Absolutely no pornographic or violent ("shock" site) images or links unless posted in the designated areas (Members Only Adult Forum). If you link to or upload anything to our public areas that is illegal or obscene, we will permanently ban you and contact your service provider.
Harassment, Troll Policy
Definition of "Troll" - In Internet terminology: A troll is someone who intentionally posts messages about sensitive topics constructed to cause controversy in an online community such as an online discussion forum in order to bait users into responding.
This is my biggest pet peeve. Trolling. Please don't do it. You one-issue posters or people who only register just to mouth off on a particular topic and incite others to flame will receive a permanent IP-ban from the website. Being banned does more than prevent you from posting -- it prevents you from even viewing the board.
When replying try be courteous and polite. When using the quote feature do not modify the poster's quotes to say something they did not say, and do not change their user name.
Ultimately you and you alone are responsible for what you say over this forum. If you say something slanderous or threatening and we receive some kind of legal request asking for your IP or other registration information, we won't hesitate to hand it over to the authorities.
Anyone who accesses HarlanForum.com must remember that this isn't some paid-for-by-the-County website. HarlanForum.com is a privately owned and operated opinion forum. Our goal is to provide a place for community members to sound off on issues effecting Harlan County.
While accessing this website you are a guest in our house -- or our Playhouse. If while on our forum you say something that we disapprove of, whether it be slanderous, libel, or threatening, or offensive/disrespectful to the moderators, we may justifiably ban you, without warning.
This forum isn't free. It costs us a lot of time and money to keep running.
If you don't agree with our policies -- then leave. Don't argue with us about a person we banned, or a post we deleted on our website that we are personally paying for.
Kids, Under 18 Registration
Absolutely no users under 18 unless given written permission from a guardian. This is for their own protection as well as the protection of adult members who may unknowingly flame them. Discussions on the Playhouse can become heated quickly and arguments will result, and I wouldn't want anybody verbally attacking my child.
With the exception of congratulatory type posts in the school forums or "positive messages", do NOT under any circumstances mention minors by name. If you have a problem with an adult and want to post something in Ground-N-Pound, leave their children out of it!
Failure to follow this rule will get you banned quickly.
The chat rules are basically similar to the forum rules. No trolling, no cloning (etc.).
A ban from chat is also a ban from the forum, and vice-versa.
Posting Of News Articles
Please refraim from posting any article that has been copy written, and also please give credit to the author, and link of non copy written articles.
If you have questions about anything feel free to post in the Help Forum.
