Harlan Ind (structured recess)

Postby GFunkMoneyDog » Tue May 16, 2017 9:20 am

First let me start off by saying this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I was informed today that Harlan Ind participates in a structured recess. What this means is that the kids have to play in stations, and if they don't have a partner they have to sit on the "buddy bench" until someone wants to play with them. I took the time to look up exactly what a "buddy bench" is. According to Buddy Bench Rules. "if you're sitting on the bench, play with the first classmate who invites you. While you're sitting on the bench, look around for a game you can join. Two friends sitting on the bench can turn to each other and invite each other to play. The bench isn't for socializing. Is it any wonder today's kids are so soft, and weak.

We could play what we wanted as kids during recess. I've known about the structured recess, and I'm not a fan of it.

That's the most stupid thing I have heard of. What it does is make the teachers job easier.

If that pisses you off G then this will take it a step further. Some school systems have hired Recess Consultants. I'm not kidding. Recess Consultants.

THIS is why ADD and ADHD drugs are becoming more common at younger ages. If you allow the kids to run and chase and burn energy they will be able to focus better in class.

Don't forget overweight PE teachers. You shouldn't require a student to do something you can't physically do.

I would like to know who's brain child this was. Almost as bad as their decision to jump on board Michelle Obama's lunch program.

We played during recess when I was in school. We got sweaty, skinned a few knees, and we all were the better for it. Playstations are for video games not for outdoor fun.

I'm waiting on my phone call regarding structured recess and how great it is.

Many of them from up there have forgotten where they came from.
