Affluent school districts keep there classes less than 26 students. A good portion of the outrageous property taxes you pay to live in one of those districts support their public schools. The difference in what is offered in affluent districts and that of poor, is daylight and dark.

The whole educational system has evolved to further disadvantage the poor.

The Harlan County School system isn't a poor school district.

One look at the salaries that was listed in the HDE tells the tale.

That's kinda the point isn't it? Where the support comes from in the U.S.A. for secondary education.

Do you believe students give up something academically when more emphasisis is placed on a great football field than on computers and whiteboards that expedite and streamline cirricula's for better efficiency and better results. Something that actually better prepares our youth to compete in a world where cutting edge technology is the difference in economic success or failure?

When comparing academic standards the entire nation and world, sets the benchmarks. Not an individual State. Because Harlan schools may be better funded than other Kentucky school districts, it doesn't mean it isn't poor in comparison to wealthier school districts nation wide. Poor does not confine itself to funding. It's also an academic standing. How funding is spent. What it does in relation to how funds are used in secondary education, district by district, State by State, nation by nation.

With 35 students in one class the teacher will spend most of his or her time having to jump onto students.
